Make sure you choose the right towbar

When you call us we’ll ask you for the registration number, make and model of the vehicle you drive, and we need to know what you are towing, how often, how far, etc., to determine which type of towbar will best suit your needs. The towbars we fit fall under three main categories: Fixed flange; fixed swan neck and detachable. If you know what type of towbar you require, great, but if you need some advice, then that’s what we are here for.

If you’re interested in an electrically deployable towbar then let us know and we can check to see if there is an option suitable for your vehicle.

A big part of getting the right towbar comes down to choosing the right electric kit. We will not skimp on quality, and you can rest assured we will only use the very best electrics on your vehicle, sourced from brands including ECS, Right Connections and Conwys. Where necessary we can then code most vehicles systems to incorporate the towbar, saving any extra trips to main dealers.

As well as a top quality towbar product at a fantastic price, you'll also get superior craftsmanship, because we want you to choose us again, and, recommend us to your friends and family!

We don’t just fit towbars, we can also help you with:

  • Cycle Racks
  • Rear Sensors
  • Reverse Cameras

Do you know your towing capacity?

We often get asked for the maximum towing weight of the towbar, but it is the capacity of the vehicle that will determine what you can tow or even if you can at all. The only way to be completely sure of your vehicle’s towing capacity is to check the Vehicle Identification Number plate (VIN plate).

The VIN plate is usually found on a door pillar or under the bonnet and will display either three* or four sets of weights:

  • The first weight (A) is your maximum laden vehicle weight. This includes occupants, fuel and payload and is the maximum allowed mass that the vehicle is able to contain.
  • The second weight (B) is the maximum train weight. This includes weight (A) combined with the maximum allowed towing weight.
  • The last two weights (C & D) are the maximum front and rear axle loads.
  • Your vehicle’s towing capacity can be determined by subtracting the first weight from the second weight. Please bear in mind that this is the fully laden towing weight and is not to be taken as the weight of an unloaded caravan or trailer.

*If there are only three weights listed, or if the second weight is blank, a zero or the same weight as the first, then this vehicle is not homologated for towing and cannot be used to tow a trailer or caravan. Some hybrid, fully electric, performance and city-car models fall under this category. It basically means that the vehicles were deemed unsuitable for towing by the manufacturer.

Though these vehicles are unable to tow, it may be possible to install a bike rack carrier. If this is something you are interested in, please let us know and we can see if there is an option suitable for your vehicle.
